LASIK Research & Questions: Finding the Right Surgeon
Filed in archive About LASIK , Finding a Surgeon on March 7, 2010
This is an interesting personal account
of one patient's research. It's
entertaining, however it might be a
good idea to be a little more thorough.
This is, however, a good overview. Before you choose LASIK refractive surgery as the means for getting that 20/20 vision you've always wanted, it's a good idea to become your own medical researcher. That's right, you should perform an exhaustive study of all the LASIK information available, including asking your doctor tough questions on LASIK surgery, the risks, and possible outcomes for your particular circumstances.
Since LASIK surgery is elective surgery, you have all the time in the world. Having a wavefront evaluation is a good place to start learning about your eyes and their unique structure and problems. Learn about the eye itself, your specific issues, and examine the statistics for patients having similar problems.
Aside from knowing about the procedure, possible complications, and costs, there are several ways you can choose the right doctor to perform your LASIK surgery:• A comprehensive list of questions is a good place to start.
• Google your doctor's name to see what comes up: A lot of complaints by unsatisfied patients should signal a red light.
• Check your doctor's qualifications and certifications: not all surgeons have the same certifications, so find out what the best ones are and see if your doctor has them.
• Ask around, both in person and on the Internet: Talk to patients in your doctor's office and check out LASIK patient forums to find out if your doctor has had any issues.
